Washington decided to establish a consultation mechanism with Russia to end the war in Ukraine
The US State Department said that Secretary Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have decided to establish a consultation mechanism between the two countries to end the war in Ukraine.
This came in a statement issued by the ministry, in which it discussed the results of the Rubio-Lavrov meeting held on Tuesday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The statement explained that Rubio and Lavrov met following a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 12, and that the delegations of the two countries sat at the negotiating table with the aim of restoring bilateral relations.
He added that President Donald Trump “wants to stop the killing” in Ukraine, and that the United States “wants peace and uses its power in the world to bring countries together”.
He pointed out that the two sides agreed to establish a consultative mechanism to address bilateral relations with the aim of taking the necessary steps to normalize the work of diplomatic missions in the two countries.
The statement thanked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for hosting the talks.
On Tuesday, Russian and US delegations held bilateral talks in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on relations between the two countries and ways to end the war in Ukraine.
