The Russian-US talks in Riyadh Concluded with agreement to continue negotiations on Ukraine’s future
The US and Russian delegations concluded their talks in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, after meeting hours ago with the aim of improving their strained relations since the Ukraine war.
On Tuesday, the meeting between the delegations of the two countries lasted 4.5 hours.
In press statements, the foreign policy adviser to the Kremlin, Yuri Ushakov, announced that the meeting had ended, indicating that the delegations of the two countries would continue talks on Ukraine in the future.
Ushakov pointed out that the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump next week is small.
He stressed the need for intensive work between the delegations of the two countries, indicating that it’s difficult to set a date for the leaders’ meeting at the present time.
The Kremlin confirmed on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate with Volodymyr Zelensky if necessary, while renewing its questioning of the latter’s legitimacy as president of Ukraine.
“Putin himself said he would be ready to negotiate with Zelensky if necessary, but the legal framework of the agreements must be discussed,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, referring to Moscow’s doubts about the legitimacy of Zelensky, whose term officially ended in May 2024.
