Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that his country would consider establishing diplomatic contacts with Syria if the right conditions existed.

Aydınlık newspaper quoted him as saying: “With regard to Syria, we maintain our principled position based on four strategic goals: Preserving the unity and territorial integrity of this country, its sustainable stability based on political decisions, eliminating the threat of terrorism on our borders, and the safe return of Syrians to their homeland”.

According to Cavusoglu, thanks to Ankara’s efforts to ensure stability in Syria, about 530,000 Syrians have already returned to their homes.

Cavusoglu noted the existence of contacts between the competent bodies in the two countries and said: “If the appropriate conditions arise to expand the existing contacts between the competent bodies to move to the diplomatic level, we will also evaluate that”.
