Benjamin Netanyahu officially confirmed victory in the Israeli elections

Benjamin Netanyahu’s victory was officially confirmed in the Israeli elections, which puts the former prime minister on the path to form a right-wing coalition government, which could complicate the country’s foreign relations.

Bloomberg news agency quoted the Israeli Central Elections Committee as saying, Wednesday, that Netanyahu’s Likud party won the highest percentage of votes in the elections that were held on the first of November.

This means that the party won 32 of the 120 seats in the Knesset.

The party “There is a Future” of outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid won 24 seats, while the far-right “Religious Zionism” coalition — a potential partner in a Netanyahu-led government — came in third with 14 seats.

It is worth noting that the Israeli elections are the fifth in less than four years.

Netanyahu’s fifth term as leader of the right-wing Likud party ended in June 2021 when an eight-party coalition government, led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, rose to power.
