The Turkish National Party leader is visiting Syria

The Turkish National (Vatan) Party leader Dogu Perincek has stated his intention to visit the Syrian President Bashar al Assad before the beginning of the year 2023, according to the Turkish Zaman newspaper.

In the details, Zaman newspaper reported that Perincek confirmed this during his participation in a meeting of his party in the Turkish state of Siirt, saying: “We’ll go to Syria with our friend, Turkish businessman Adham Sancak, during the next two months, at the invitation of President Bashar al Assad”.

In his speech, Perincek added: “The Syrians are the brothers of the Turks, and obstacles and walls have been set up between the two countries, but all this will be removed”.

Dogu Perincek explained that this visit aims to end terrorism in Syria and bring peace and tranquility to Türkiye, considering that it comes to create conditions for production and peace and start trade exchange.

Zaman newspaper pointed out that Dogu Perincek has been talking since September about the date of his visit to Damascus, which has been postponed several times, following statements by President Erdogan and Turkish officials regarding easing tensions with Syria.

It was also noted in this regard that after more than a decade of tensions, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed, last August, the validity of reports talking about the normalization of relations with Damascus.

Zaman newspaper quoted Erdogan as saying on that occasion: “We’re not concerned about whether Assad’s defeat or not… All the steps we have taken with the Russians in northern Syria, east and west of the Euphrates are aimed at fighting against terrorism”.

Zaman newspaper, which is considered a Turkish opposition newspaper commented that the Justice and Development Party government had interfered in the Syrian war since its beginnings alongside what it called the opposition.
