Trump: The shutting down the New York Times would be excellent news for America!
US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on the New York Times, calling it a “corrupt and unprincipled newspaper”, expressing hope that it will be closed as an excellent news!
Trump harsh words came in a post on Truth Social, where he accused the newspaper of providing only negative coverage of him during the previous presidential election, saying, “They only wrote about me negatively during the last election, and I won by a landslide… There is no trust in them from anyone who is aware, they are a trivial newspaper of the lowest levels”.
“I look forward to their rapid collapse and eventually forcing them to close… This will be excellent news for America”.
The verbal attack comes in the context of the entrenched hostility between Trump and the newspaper, which has recently reached the courts.
Earlier, Trump filed a $15 billion lawsuit against the New York Times, accusing the newspaper of publicly supporting his 2024 presidential challenger, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, and of defaming himself, his family members, and his surroundings.
The remarks are a continuation of Trump’s aggressive tone against mainstream media outlets that he calls “fake news,” especially those that criticize his policies or provide unfavorable coverage.
The New York Times has become one of the main targets of this ongoing critique.
