US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called on Americans to move beyond the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and focus on issues that matter to the people.

Trump insisted he was innocent of the scandal, telling reporters at the White House, “He didn’t reveal anything about me except that it was a conspiracy against me, actually, by Epstein and others… But I think maybe now is the time for the country to turn to other issues, like health care or any issue that concerns people”.

In announcing the release of the case documents on January 30, the US Department of Justice said it had complied with Congress’s requirement on the Trump administration to provide full transparency in this politically sensitive case.

The government has published about 3.5 million pages of this huge dossier since December, under pressure from a law passed by Congress, the department said.

About 100 of Epstein’s victims objected to the way the documents were published, without any guarantees of protecting their privacy.

But a hearing on their petition scheduled for Wednesday before a federal judge in New York was postponed until further notice, at the request of their lawyers, who said there were constructive discussions with the Justice Department to address the situation.
