US President Donald Trump will chair a “large-scale meeting” at the White House on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Gaza, the day after the end of the nearly two-year-old war in the territory, his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced Tuesday.

“We’ve a very important meeting at the White House, headed by the president, and we’re working on a very comprehensive plan for the day after the war ends,” Witkoff told Fox News.

The war in the Palestinian enclave has been devastated by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas for nearly two years.

Witkoff’s statement came in response to a question about whether there was a “plan for the day after in Gaza,” meaning an end to the war that began in October 2023 and is still ongoing.

Trump stunned the world earlier this year when he proposed that the United States take control of the Gaza Strip, evacuate its two million residents, and turn the narrow coastal strip into a luxury tourist resort.

Trump said at the time that the United States would remove the rubble and unexploded bombs and turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the proposal, which was harshly criticized by several European and Arab countries.

Witkoff didn’t provide details about the plan the meeting will discuss on Wednesday, but he stressed that people “will see how strong and well-intentioned its”.
