Three internet cables in the Red Sea were damaged
Three global telecommunications and Internet cables passing through the waters of the Red Sea were cut on Tuesday, halting about 25% of data traffic between the continents of Asia and Europe.
The three international telecommunications wires passing under the waters of the Red Sea, which provide Internet and communications services, were cut off on Monday, without giving further details or reasons for the outage.
Hong Kong-based HGC Global Communications said in a statement that the damaged wires include, the Asia-Africa-Europe 1 cable, the Europe-India cable, and the Secom TGN Gulf cable.
The Israeli Globes website had accused the Houthis of cutting 4 communications cables in the Red Sea, and added that repairing these cables may take at least two months.
The Houthis denied targeting any communications cables in the Red Sea.
Houthi leader Abdul Malik al Houthi said, “We’ve no intention of targeting the submarine cables that provide Internet to countries in the region”.
The Houthis have been targeting commercial ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea since November 19 in protest against the devastating Israeli war in the Gaza Strip.
