US Army officials announced, on Sunday, that the location of two US Navy Special Forces members who went missing in the Gulf of Aden this month during a raid on a boat carrying Iranian weapons hadn’t yet been determined, after extensive search efforts, and their deaths were confirmed after a change, putting them to “deceased status”.

The US Central Command indicated on X that the announcement of their loss was made after they set off on January 11 on board the boat near the coast of Somalia.

General Michael Erik Kurilla, Commander of US Central Command, mourned the two victims and confirmed that they were Special Forces warriors, expressing recognition and appreciation for their sacrifices.

The statement indicated that a joint search operation was carried out with the participation of the United States, Spain and Japan to search more than 54 thousand square kilometers of the ocean in search of the two missing individuals, and the Central Command announced that the mission had now become a recovery operation.

This comes in the context of Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, which hindered global trade and destabilized the region.
