The Syrian president visited Iran for the first time since the start of the war in Syria
Syrian President Bashar Al Assad visited Iran on Monday, and met with the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in Tehran.
This visit is the first of its kind since the Syrian conflict broke out eight years ago.
According to the Syrian official news agency SANA, Syrian President Assad’s visit to the Iranian capital Tehran was to present “thankful” to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the leadership and the people, for all that it provided to Syria during the war.
Assad congratulated Khamenei and the Iranian people on the fortieth anniversary of the Islamic Revolution victory, which over the past four decades has been a model for building a strong state capable of realizing the interests of its people and immune to external interference in all its forms.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the relations between the two countries, stressing that these relations were the main factor in the steadfastness of Syria and Iran in the face of the designs of hostile countries that seek to weaken the two countries and destabilize them and spread chaos in the region as a whole.
For his part, Khamenei congratulated Assad, the Syrian people, and the armed forces on the victories achieved on terrorism.
He pointed out that “these victories dealt a severe blow to the Western and American projects in the region, which requires more caution than they might be able to do in the next stage in response to their failure”.
“The continuation of his country’s side with Syria until its full recovery and the elimination of terrorism in a final way, explaining that Syria and Iran are the strategic depth of each other”.
The meeting touched on the developments in the region.
President Assad pointed out that achieving the interests of the peoples of the region requires their governments to stop obeying the will of some Western countries, especially the Unites States, and to adopt balanced policies based on respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their affairs.
Proved that the submission and implementation of the dictates of others results much worse than that the States are the masters of their decision.
The two sides stressed that the policy of escalation and the attempt to spread the chaos of some Western countries, especially against Syria and Iran, “will not succeed in dissuading the two countries from continuing to defend the interests of their people and support the issues of the region and it’s just rights”, according to SANA.
President Assad then met with President Hassan Rouhani.
The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the strategic level reached by the relations between the two countries at various levels.
Assad thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people for all they provided to Syria during the war, while President Rouhani stressed that “the Iranian people stood by the principle of supporting the legitimacy that is resisting terrorism”, and that Tehran will continue to provide what it can to the Syrian people to complete the eradication of terrorism and start reconstruction”.
The meeting dealt with the efforts exerted within the framework of Astana to end the war against Syria.
President Rouhani presented President Assad in the form of the recent meeting of the three countries that participated in the Astana process, and there was a convergence of views on ways to achieve progress in this regard, The sovereignty, sovereignty and sovereignty of Syria and the elimination of terrorism in all its territories.
