The Hungarian prime minister challenges the arrest warrant against Netanyahu and invites him to visit Hungary
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, said Friday he would invite his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu to Hungary in defiance of an arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court.
“We have no choice but to challenge this decision,” he said in an interview with state radio.
“Later today I will invite Netanyahu to come to Hungary where I can guarantee him that the International Criminal Court decision will have no effect”.
According to Orban, “the decision is impudent and disguised as judicial purposes but in reality, has political purposes and leads to undermining the credibility of international law”.
More than a year after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, the court issued two arrest warrants on Thursday against Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister, Yoav Galant, on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, which angered Israel.
