Israel: Netanyahu pursues Galant and monitors his actions to announce his dissenter from the ruling Likud party
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is monitoring the actions of dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Galant, in preparation for announcing that he has “dissented” from the ruling Likud party.
According to the Israeli Walla website, who quoted sources within Netanyahu’s Likud party as saying that the party and the prime minister himself are monitoring Galant’s actions so that they can declare him a “dissident” from the party.
The sources explained that the Likud is monitoring Galant’s activities and actions in the Israeli Knesset against Netanyahu’s government, in preparation for announcing his defection and not running for the party’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
The sources stated that since the announcement of Galant’s dismissal from the position of Minister of Defense on November 5, the Likud has been monitoring his activity and actions within the Knesset, especially his statements against the Netanyahu government.
The sources attributed the goal behind this matter to an attempt to collect evidence proving that Galant is acting independently, in preparation for announcing his defection from the coalition, which means punishing Galant by not running in the upcoming elections.
According to sources, Netanyahu wants to force Galant to resign from the Knesset, so that he won’t vote against him in the future.
On November 5, Netanyahu announced the dismissal of Galant from the position of Minister of Defense, and the appointment of Israel Katz in his place, citing many differences between them regarding the war that Israel is waging in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon.
Netanyahu explained that there was a crisis of confidence that developed over time between him and Galant, which didn’t allow them to manage the war on the Gaza Strip normally.
