The German Chancellor: Europe ready to respond to Trump’s tariffs

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during a debate with his conservative rival Friedrich Merz that Europe is ready to respond immediately if the United States imposes tariffs on the European Union.
“Yes, we as the European Union are able to respond within an hour,” Scholz said, referring to a list of measures ready to be taken if Washington imposes such tariffs.
Scholz’s comments come in light of US President Donald Trump’s repeated threats to impose tariffs on US trading partners, accusing them of taking advantage of the US economy without offering anything in return.
Trump had promised to announce the tariffs next week, after signing an order to delay tariffs on low-cost imports from China until the Commerce Department had the systems and procedures in place to collect the required revenue.
