The commander of US forces in the Middle East visits Syria

The commander of US forces in the Middle East, General Frank McKenzie, announced a visit to the al Tanf base in the Syrian desert.

In a statement to reporters, McKenzie announced on Sunday, that he visited the al Tanf base in Syria, where US forces are stationed, to meet with the military, after more than a week of military maneuvers with the Air Force at the strategic base, in the Iraqi-Jordanian Triangle.

Adding that he visited Iraq, and met with the commander of the international coalition forces, General Paul Calvert, and the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah.

Announcing the readiness of the US forces in the region to confront any threats from Iran, on the first anniversary of the killing of the Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, on January 3, who was assassinated by an American strike in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport.

It is worth noting that the international coalition forces conducted exercises in the al Tanf base in the Homs desert at the end of last November, with the F15 air force, and the participation of a Syrian opposition faction to demonstrate the ability of military deterrence in the region.
