President of Iran: Our doctrine prevents us from possessing nuclear weapons

The Iranian President stressed that possession of nuclear weapons doesn’t exist in our belief at all, in his statements during the opening ceremony of an Iranian exports’ exhibition.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made it clear that nuclear weapons are not part of Iran’s policy, days after an Iranian leader threatened to make a shift in nuclear policy if Israel attacks Iranian nuclear sites.

Raisi said, “Possession of nuclear weapons does not exist in our belief at all,” in his statements during the opening ceremony of an Iranian exports’ exhibition.

On April 19, Israel carried out a strike, targeting a major air base and nuclear site near Isfahan, in central Iran.

This attack was considered by some to be a response to an Iranian attack that targeted Israel a few days ago.

A day before the attack, the Revolutionary Guard commander responsible for the security of Iran’s nuclear facilities threatened that the country would likely reconsider its nuclear doctrine and policy if its nuclear sites were threatened by Israel.

Raisi pointed out that Iran’s decision not to seek nuclear weapons is mainly due to a religious decree issued by the Supreme Leader, and has nothing to do with the international embargo.
