Poll: The percentage of Syrians who support a peace agreement with Israel
The results of a new poll conducted by the Syrian Center for Public Opinion Research show a significant shift in Syrian attitudes toward peace with Israel, with 40% of respondents expressing support for a peace agreement between Syria and Israel aimed at improving the country’s economic and security situation.
The survey, conducted last April, where 2,550 men and women of various ages and regions in Syria were surveyed.
The survey revealed that 60% of respondents expected a normalization agreement with Israel in the future, while only 17% supported the opening of an Israeli embassy in Damascus, while a similar percentage expressed willingness to accept Syrian diplomatic representation in Israel.
Despite this relative shift in attitudes, 77% of participants still consider Israel the greatest threat to Syria, followed by Iran at 66%, and then the United States at 47%.
According to the survey, most Syrians associate the idea of peace with achieving economic stability.
More than 70% believe that normalization will help attract Arab and international investment, while more than half of respondents believe the move could de-escalate regional conflicts and improve the security situation in Damascus.
The report stated that Kurdish, Druze, Christian, and Alawite communities expressed the greatest support for peace, especially after the Israeli military pledged to protect minorities in the post-Assad era.
Support was also highest in the Quneitra Governorate, near the Golan Heights, where Israel took since the fall of the Syrian regime in December 2024.
