US forces carried out a several sudden withdrawal from two major military bases located in the eastern Deir al Zour countryside, within areas under the control of the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF).

The withdrawal process began gradually on May 18, before accelerating significantly over the past two days.

US military convoys, including armored vehicles and logistical equipment, were spotted leaving the al Omar oil field and the Conoco gas plant, amid intense overflights by international coalition aircraft in the region.

The al Omar oil field base is considered one of the largest US military bases in Syria.

Like the Conoco base, it has been repeatedly attacked over the past two years, making it a constant target for armed groups.

Following the withdrawal, SDF commandos took over the vacated positions.

A military coordination with the international coalition will continue, especially in the event of security operations or targeting ISIS cells.

Air and logistical support is scheduled to launch from the al Shaddadi base, located south of Hasakah Governorate, which US forces still maintain as one of their main bases.

This withdrawal is one of the most significant US moves in northeastern Syria in recent times, amid growing talk of redrawing the map of US military deployment in the region.
