NBC News: Pentagon plans to withdraw all its forces from Syria
NBC News reported that the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has begun preparing plans to withdraw all US forces from Syria.
NBC News reported that Pentagon officials confirmed that President Donald Trump and his close team recently expressed interest in withdrawing US forces from Syria, which prompted military officials to begin preparing plans for a complete withdrawal within periods ranging from 30 to 90 days.
Sources reported that the new National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, visited the headquarters of the US Central Command in Tampa, Florida, last Friday, where he met with senior US military leaders and received briefings on the situation in the Middle East.
However, a White House official stressed that Waltz’s visit to Central Command wasn’t intended to discuss reducing US forces in Syria, but was part of a process to brief him on the regional situation in general.
Asked during a media event in the Oval Office about reports that the Israeli government had been informed about withdrawing US forces from Syria, President Trump replied, “I don’t know who said that, but we’ll be making a decision on that soon”.
“We’re not directly involved in Syria, it’s its own mess, and they have had their share of the mess there,” he added.
