Several Israeli media outlets circulated information that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave his approval to the proposed ceasefire agreement in Lebanon during limited security consultations he held on Sunday evening.

According to the information, Israel gave the US mediator Amos Hochstein the green light to move forward towards signing the agreement to cease fire in Lebanon.

Israeli approval of the proposed agreement was confirmed during a limited security consultation held Sunday evening, by the Prime Minister with a number of ministers in his office.

According an Israeli source, “It’s hoped that a ceasefire will be declared within two days”.

Israeli sources also indicated that the agreement with Lebanon has been concluded, and Netanyahu is now studying how to explain it to the public,” according to the Kan channel.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that the talks are now focused on the issue of the Israeli army freedom of movement in the Syrian-Lebanese border area.

It quoted sources described as informed about the US side’s position as saying that Israel received guarantees from Washington of freedom of movement on the border in the event of a violation of the agreement.

For his part, the Israeli ambassador to Washington, Mike Herzog, claimed on Monday that a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon was close to being reached, with the possibility of announcing it within days.

“We’re close to reaching an agreement in Lebanon, and it could happen within days,” Herzog told Israel’s Army Radio.

“We just need to close the last cases,” he added.

Regarding the agreement itself, he said, “This is an arrangement that should keep Hezbollah away (from the border) and allow the residents of the north (the displaced Israelis) to return to their homes.”

Herzog claimed that “Hezbollah is now weaker, and if any violations occur, Israel retains the freedom to act against it”.

The United States is mediating an agreement between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah, even though it supports its ally Israel in its wars on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
