Hezbollah fired about 250 projectiles toward several areas in Israel
The Israeli army announced that Hezbollah launched about 250 projectiles towards Israel on Sunday, in a number that is among the largest recorded in recent weeks.
The Israeli army said the largest number of projectiles fired by Hezbollah at Israel since the start of the current conflict was 350, launched on September 24, days before Israel launched a ground offensive against the Iranian-backed group.
For his part, the leader of the “State Camp” party, former Israeli Minister Benny Gantz, called on Benjamin Netanyahu’s government on Sunday to bomb Lebanese government headquarters.
An Israeli writer suggested that the parliament building in the capital, Beirut, was among the possible targets.
Gantz wrote a post on X, in which he called on the Israeli government to target Lebanese government facilities and headquarters that have so far remained outside the range of the bloody Israeli bombing.
Gantz wrote, “the Lebanese government is giving Hezbollah a free hand, and it is time to act forcefully against its assets”.
In turn, the military commentator for the Maariv newspaper, Avi Ashkenazi, considered in an article on Sunday that targeting the Lebanese parliament building might be an option for the Israeli army, with the aim of declaring victory, after which his country could return the settlers in its north to their homes.
He claimed that “the parliament building is part of Hezbollah’s political echelon, and could serve as a refuge for members of the party itself”.
Ashkenazi also believed that the Israeli army could bomb some targets, such as destroying 10 or 20 other buildings in the southern suburb of Beirut, with the aim of ensuring control over the area.
The southern suburb is the area between the southern coast of Beirut and the beginning of Mount Lebanon east of the capital, and is administratively affiliated with the Mount Lebanon Governorate.
In the heart of the Southern Suburb is the Haret Hreik area, in Beirut which is covering an area of 1.82 square kilometers.
Haret Hreik is 5 km away from Beirut, and is described as the political stronghold of Hezbollah, as it includes its security and political headquarters, such as the command center, the offices of its deputies, and the Hezbollah’s Shura Council, in addition to a dense population concentration.
