Former Putin speechwriter: Military coup in Russia is possible

A military coup has become possible in Russia as the war continues in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin’s former speechwriter Abbas Gallyamov told CNN on Monday.
“The Russian economy is deteriorating, and the war is lost… There’re more and more corpses coming back to Russia, so the Russians will have more difficulties and they will try to find an explanation as to why this is happening, and they will look around at the political process and they will answer themselves… Well, it’s because our country is ruled by an old tyrant, an old dictator… and at this moment, I think a military coup becomes possible” Gallyamov said.
Putin’s former speechwriter added, “So in one year when the political situation changes and there is a hated and unpopular president at the head of the country and the war is really unpopular, and they need bloodshed for this, at this moment, a coup becomes a real possibility”.
Gallyamov believed that Putin may cancel the presidential elections scheduled for March 2024.
The former writer of the Russian President’s speeches added: “Judging by his actions, when he escalates an issue without necessity, he may cancel the elections… Without victory in Ukraine, he will face difficulties with the Russians… The Russians don’t need him if he’s not strong, and he may declare martial law and cancel the elections”.
Galliamov currently works as a political analyst and writes for the independent Russian media outlet Mozhem Obyasnit.
