Former Israeli Army Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said that Israel lost the war against Hamas, and that the only victory that will be achieved is the overthrow of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Halutz, who is considered one of the most prominent former Israeli army commanders, made these statements during a conference of the Israeli protest movement against judicial amendments in Haifa last week.

The former chief of staff said that Israel didn’t win the operation “Iron Swords”, adding, “There will be no image of victory in this war, but only an image of loss, with 1,300 dead, 240 kidnapped, and 200,000 refugees”.

The former Israeli Army Chief of Staff stressed that the only image of victory would be the removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

General Halutz called on supporters of the Israeli opposition to build an alliance against Netanyahu, especially the demonstrators who have rallied since the beginning of the year against the controversial “judicial amendments,” to resume protests and prepare for the battle to oust him.

Halutz also pointed out in his speech the possibility of a civil war breaking out in Israel, warning, “It will be a difficult conflict, as blood may be shed in the streets because Ben Gvir’s brigades are already armed, but we will not surrender”.

On the other hand, Ben Gvir responded to Halutz’s statements that the latter was investing politically in the war, and said, “Unlike Dan Halutz, who is trying to sell stocks during the war, I am involved in opening a reserve unit and saving the people of Israel”.

Many reports indicate that current minister so security Itamar Ben Gvir is working to establish his own militia in light of the sharp division in the Israeli street.
