Colombian president calls for Trump to be prosecuted for targeting boats in the Caribbean Sea
Colombian President Gustavo Petro called Tuesday, in a speech to the UN General Assembly, for the criminal prosecution of the US president Donald Trump, over raids launched by the United States in the Caribbean Sea against boats it said were used by drug smugglers.
“Poor, unarmed young men were killed in the raids, which Washington included as part of an operation to combat drug trafficking off the coast of Venezuela,” Petro said.
The Colombian president accused Trump of issuing orders to attack these boats, resulting in the deaths of young men simply seeking to escape poverty who were unable to defend themselves.
At least 14 people were killed in US raids targeting at least three boats, in attacks described by UN experts as extrajudicial executions.
