Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness to step down from his post if it would contribute to peace or pave the way for Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

“If peace in Ukraine requires me to give up my post, I am ready for that, provided that I am immediately replaced by our joining NATO, if that is possible,” Zelensky said in a press conference broadcast by his office on YouTube.

Zelensky also added that Kyiv will host a summit tomorrow with the participation of European leaders, noting that it could constitute a decisive moment.

Its noteworthy that Zelensky’s term ended on May 20, when the elections were cancelled under the pretext of martial law and a state of general mobilization.

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the Ukrainian parliament and its speaker are now the only legitimate authorities in the country, noting that if Ukrainians want to elect a legitimate president, martial law must be abolished, although the Ukrainian constitution doesn’t provide for extending the results of previous elections if such laws continue.
