Yedioth Ahronoth: The details of three assassination attempts against Ahmed Sharaa since he took power
Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that, since he took power, the Syrian transitional president Ahmed al Sharaa was subjected to three assassination attempts within seven months of assuming the presidency of the transitional authority in Syria, likely orchestrated by ISIS, and that Türkiye played a major role in saving him.
According to the Israeli newspaper, the first time was last March, when a Turkish force detected suspicious movements as al Sharaa was leaving the Presidential People’s Palace.
Three security guards clung to him, and the terrorist who attempted to assassinate him was arrested, taken into custody, and interrogated – The case wasn’t made public by orders from al Sharaa.
The second time was more complicated, as it occurred during his visit to Dara’a Governorate on the Jordanian border, where his skilled Syrian and Turkish security guards, a vital element in his robust defense, noticed two suspicious individuals and made a last-minute change of course.
The third time, according to the Israeli newspaper, al Sharaa nearly died, when an assassin ambushed him in Damascus on the route he planned to take from the presidential palace.
Full details of the latest attempt have yet to be revealed, but it sparked rumors of al Sharaa’s hasty departure from the capital.
In this regard, the US envoy Tom Barrack, who serves as ambassador to Ankara, made statements about the assassination attempts against al Sharaa, spoke of the need to protect him, and warned of extremely serious threats.
