Washington’s plan to establish the “regional peace” rail line will link Israel and Jordan to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states
The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Monday evening that for the first time, the United States is adopting a plan to establish the “regional peace” railway.
The plan was developed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Communications Yisrael Katz.
The plan envisages a railway linking Israel and Jordan to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states (UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait).
The Israeli Minister of Communications arrived in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, to participate in an international transport conference.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that this initiative is a development that may affect many countries in the region, adding that Washington’s adoption of the initiative came after continuous contacts over the past two years between Israel and the US administration and Arab parties in the region.
US Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt referred to the plan in a tweet on Twitter.
“Katz will present a plan to build a rail link between Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf states”, Greenblatt said.
“Let’s continue dialogue, these efforts support our efforts”.
With the exception of Egypt and Jordan, which have peace agreements with Israel, the Arab states do not have open diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv.
Nevertheless, the pace of normalization has increased in recent times through various forms between Israelis and Arabs through Israeli participation in sports and cultural activities in Arab countries.
Ten days ago, the Israeli prime minister visited Oman, the first public visit by an Israeli official in 22 years.
