US National Security Advisor and Deputy National Security Advisor Resign Over Secret Conversation
US media reported on Thursday that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, may resign from their positions, following a controversy sparked by a recently revealed secret conversation.
According to a report by CBS News, Waltz faced sharp criticism after discussing sensitive information related to potential military operations against the Houthi group in Yemen during a meeting with senior US national security officials.
CBS News noted that The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg was present at the meeting, which led to the leak of part of the discussions, which included secret military plans, raising concerns within the White House.
Although Goldberg omitted sensitive details from his initial report, he later republished it after US officials denied that the information was classified or had been leaked illegally.
Following this incident, several White House officials discussed the possibility of Mike Waltz resigning, but no official decision has yet been made.
Alex Wong, Deputy National Security Advisor, previously served as Deputy Special Representative for North Korea during the Trump administration and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
He is known for his extensive experience in US foreign policy matters.
