Syria: US forces reduce their presence in Deir al Zour and head towards Hasakah Governorate
The US-led international coalition forces continue to reduce their presence at their bases in Deir al Zour Governorate, eastern Syria, and withdraw towards Hasakah Governorate to the northeast.
According to local sources, approximately 200 trucks were heading from the Conoco and al Omar gas fields in Deir al Zour region, where US forces are stationed, to Hasakah Governorate.
These vessels withdrew from the oil fields in Deir al Zour towards US bases located in the Qasrak and al Shaddadi areas in the Hasakah countryside.
According to local sources, the withdrawing trucks were carrying several containers, some military vehicles, and prefabricated structures.
In mid-April, the New York Times reported, citing senior US officials, that the Pentagon was preparing to close three of its eight bases in northeastern Syria.
The report noted that this plan would reduce the number of US troops in Syria from 2,000 to 1,400.
US military officials will assess the possibility of further troop reductions after 60 days.
The US military is stationed at 21 military bases and points in the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir al Zour, located east of the Euphrates, as well as Ayn al Arab, part of Aleppo Governorate in northern Syria.
