US diplomatic missions in Turkey announce to close their doors on April 26 and 27 due to Biden’s recognize the Armenians genocide
The US embassy and consulates in Turkey announced that they will close their doors on April 26 and 27, as a precaution, after US President Joe Biden admitted that Armenians were subjected to genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
A statement issued by the US missions in Turkey said: “As a precaution, the US Embassy in Ankara, the US Consulate General in Istanbul, the US Consulate in Adana and the US Consulate Agency in Izmir will be closed to provide daily services and visa support to US citizens on Monday and Tuesday.
The statement indicated that “after President Biden’s announcement, demonstrations or protests are expected”.
The embassy recommended that US citizens needing emergency assistance contact diplomatic agencies by phone or email.
The White House issued an official statement by the US President recognizing the “genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915”.
