US Bernie Senator Sanders calls on the US administration to stop arming Israel
US Senator Bernie Sanders called on Washington to stop arms and ammunition sales to Israel, in light of the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which is being subjected to a genocidal war.
“The United States shouldn’t be sending more bombs to the extremist Netanyahu government, which has already killed 45,000 people; destroyed Gaza’s housing, health care, and education systems; and caused famine by blocking humanitarian aid,” Sanders said in a post on X, Monday.
He stressed that he would do everything in his power to prevent US arms sales to Israel.
In parallel with Washington’s unconditional support for the genocide in Gaza, US officials informally informed Congress on January 4 of a proposed $8 billion arms deal for Israel, including warplanes and artillery ammunition.
The proposed deal, which requires congressional approval, includes critical defense equipment and munitions such as drones, 155mm artillery shells, small-sized bombs, 500kg warheads, bomb detonators, as well as air defenses such as AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles.
