US and international organizations call on Biden to cut military aid to Israel and move to hold it accountable for its crimes
Around 290 American and international organizations demanded in a letter addressed to the US President Joe Biden to suspend US military funding to the Israeli government, halt any diplomatic efforts that allow its systematic impunity for gross human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, and allow it to be tried before the International War Crimes Court.
The organizations also called in the letter issued on Thursday, to “condemn the repressive tactics of the Israeli government and escalate the criminalization and intimidation campaign against Palestinian civil society organizations, their employees and boards of directors, and reject the accusations of the Israeli government that have been leveled against these organizations”.
The letter said, “The US administration must demand the Israeli authorities to stop their actions against Palestinian civil society organizations, and to take diplomatic measures in coordination with European countries to protect the targeted Palestinian organizations, their employees, boards of directors, buildings and properties, and to refrain from imposing any sanctions or policies that would prevent direct participation between the government of The United States and Palestinian civil society, or otherwise prevent a full and comprehensive public understanding of the gravity and effects of Israeli oppression”.
The organizations also demanded that the United States refrain from undermining the right of Palestinians and Palestinian civil society organizations to seek justice and accountability, including at the International Criminal Court, and ensure that no action at the federal level is taken to impede in any way the funding of targeted Palestinian organizations.
The letter stressed the importance of suspending US military funding to the Israeli government, and halting any diplomatic efforts that allow impunity for the grave Israeli violations of internationally recognized human rights.
