Senior US and European Union officials are meeting early next week with diplomats from several countries in the so-called Global South in an effort to engage key countries, which have mostly remained neutral, in the face of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The meeting, which will be held in Denmark, is expected to include envoys from South Africa, Brazil and India, in addition to the US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and a senior Ukrainian official, according to informed sources.

China has yet to confirm whether it will attend and a long list of participants has yet to finalized, according to one of the sources.

Brazil will be represented by the president’s chief diplomatic adviser, according to the sources, who asked not to be identified due to the confidentiality of the plans.

Although the meeting, first reported by the Financial Times, is not expected to have an official agenda, one of the main objectives of the meeting will be to discuss the peace formula for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his efforts to convene a global summit on his proposals.
