UEFA: Russia excluded from Euro 2024 qualifiers
The European Football Association (UEFA) announced on Tuesday, the exclusion of the Russian national team from the qualifiers for the European Nations Cup (Euro 2024).
This announcement comes as a continuation of the ban of Russian teams and teams from participating in the tournaments organized by UEFA in light of the conflict in Ukraine.
The European Union said in an official statement: “All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee meeting on February 28, 2022, which was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on July 15, 2022.
Therefore, Russia won’t participate in the qualifying draw for Euro 2024.
In turn, the Russian Federation responded, in a statement: “Our national team won’t participate in the draw for the Euro 2024 qualifiers, which will be held on October 9 in Frankfurt.
“This is due to UEFA’s decision issued last February to suspend the participation of Russian teams and clubs in competitions organized by UEFA until further notice”.
It is reported that the Russian Football Federation attempted to appeal this decision, but lost the first appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Those in charge of the Russian Federation are awaiting the text of the arbitration court’s decision, provided that appropriate steps are taken to legally respond to it.
