The Turkish government has begun making plans to support the reconstruction process in Syria after the fall of the Bashar al Assad regime on December 8.

According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has instructed ministers to contribute to the reconstruction efforts in Syria.

Each ministry will provide support in its field of expertise, in order to restart public institutions and organizations in the country.

The most prominent projects that Turkey plans to implement in Syria:

Immigration Offices

Immigration Offices are expected to be opened at the Ankara Embassy in Damascus and its Consulate in Aleppo, with the aim of sharing the identity records, information and official documents of Syrians in Türkiye with the relevant authorities in Syria, if necessary.

Ministry of Interior

With the establishment of the Ministry of Interior in Syria, Türkiye will provide support in meeting basic needs such as civil registry, security, and passport printing, as well as providing support in areas such as technical equipment and information exchange.

Return of Syrians

As of January 1, the Turkish Interior Ministry will allow one person from each family to visit Syria three times within 6 months.

Two out of six border crossings will also be designated to enable Syrians to enter and exit in an orderly manner.

Jewelry

If Syrians leave Türkiye, they can take out valuable jewelry and gemstones worth more than $15,000, without having to prove that they declared them upon entering Türkiye or that they purchased them inside the country until December 31, 2025.
