Turkish politician: Putin and Erdogan will spoil US plans in Syria
The decisions that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan may take during their meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan are expected to hinder US plans in Syria, according to statements by the leader of the Turkish Patriotic Party, Doğu Perinçek.
Perinçek explained that these decisions will contribute to accelerating the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus.
The Turkish politician pointed out that the Syrian issue will be a major focus in the talks between the two presidents, stressing the importance of Russian-Turkish cooperation in improving relations between Türkiye and Syria.
He added that coordination between Moscow and Ankara, represented by Putin and Erdogan, is the main factor that could hinder the American and NATO plans in Syria.
He also stressed the need not to slow down this process, stressing that the success of the Astana track is inevitable.
Perinçek believes that cooperation between Russia and Türkiye strengthens the territorial integrity of Türkiye, Syria, Iran, and Iraq, and prevents the realization of the plan to establish Kurdistan supported by the United States and Israel.
In the same context, Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov indicated that Türkiye had submitted an application to fully join the BRICS group, and it was now under consideration.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also announced that President Erdogan will participate in the BRICS summit scheduled in Kazan.
Earlier, Erdogan stressed that he was looking forward to firm measures from Russia and Iran to confront Israeli threats against Syria, and expressed his readiness to meet his Syrian counterpart Bashar al Assad, awaiting the Syrian side’s response to this proposal.
For his part, the Russian ambassador to Ankara, Alexei Erkhov, indicated that his country is making strenuous efforts to support reaching agreements aimed at normalizing relations between Türkiye and Syria.
