Turkish politician: International intelligence agencies seek to obstruct the meeting of Erdogan and Asaad
Hakan Topkurulu, deputy head of the Turkish Fatherland (Vatan) party, confirmed that international intelligence is carrying out provocations aimed at preventing a possible meeting between Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al Assad, and disrupting the normalization process between Ankara and Damascus.
Topkurulu explained that intelligence services from several countries are working to disrupt efforts to normalize relations between Türkiye and Syria, especially the possible meeting between Erdogan and Assad.
For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently stated that Ankara may extend an invitation to President Assad at any moment, expressing his hope to restore Turkish-Syrian relations to their former state.
Erdogan pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Iraqi prime minister support the idea of Erdogan meeting Assad in Türkiye, pointing to the possibility of mediation in this context.
Earlier, during a meeting with Russian President Alexander Lavrentyev, Syrian President Bashar al Assad stressed his country’s openness to all initiatives related to the relationship with Türkiye, stressing the importance of the sovereignty of the Syrian state over all its territory and the fight against all forms of terrorism.
