Turkish media: Ankara hosts a meeting between the directors of Russian and US intelligence
Turkish media reported that the director of Russian foreign intelligence, Sergei Naryshkin, held a meeting with the director of the CIA, William Burns, in Ankara.
While the Turkish NTV channel reported that details of the meeting were not disclosed, the White House press service said that the head of the CIA warned his Russian counterpart during the meeting “about the consequences of using nuclear weapons”.
According to the White House National Security Council, “Burnes delivered a message to his Russian counterpart regarding the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia, and the risks of escalation to strategic stability”.
The Turkish authorities did not comment on the meeting.
NTV reported that the meeting could be important for establishing contacts between Russia and the United States.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations praised the holding of the talks by Russian and US officials, noting that this is “a good positive step, and an important development”.
