Turkish Foreign Minister begins official visit to Algeria
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Algeria on Sunday at the start of a two-day official visit, during which he will discuss bilateral relations and regional and international issues with Algerian officials.
The Turkish plane carrying the minister landed at Ahmed Ben Bella International Airport in Oran, where he was received by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounes Mekremane.
During his visit, the Turkish foreign minister, oversaw the opening of the Turkish Consulate General in the city of In Oran.
Fidan, along with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, will also co-chair the third meeting of the joint planning group between the two countries.
According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, during his talks in Algeria, Fidan will review the ongoing preparations for the high-level strategic cooperation council meeting between the two countries, scheduled to be held during President Tebboune’s upcoming visit to Türkiye, the date of which has yet to be determined.
He will also emphasize the importance of effectively leveraging economic cooperation opportunities to achieve the shared goal of increasing trade volume to $10 billion.
He is also expected to emphasize the importance of enhancing cooperation in the energy sector, given Algeria’s vital role in ensuring Türkiye’s energy security, in addition to exploring ways to cooperate in the defense industries on the basis of mutual benefit, according to the agency, and the two sides will hold talks on the African Sahel, Libya, Syria, and the Gaza Strip.
