Report: Washington withdraws its soldiers from three points in northeastern Syria and transfers them to larger bases
The US military has withdrawn its soldiers from three small military outposts in areas controlled by the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeastern Syria, and transferred them to larger bases in the region.
The US military moved its soldiers on Thursday from three small points in Hasakah and Deir al Zour, provinces.
The US soldiers and their military equipment were transported to the Rmeilan base in Hasakah and the Conoco gas field in Deir al Zour.
No official statement has been issued by the US Army regarding this matter until the time of publication.
On Thursday, the New York Times reported, citing senior US officials, that the Pentagon is preparing to close three of its eight bases in northeastern Syria.
The report noted that this plan would reduce the number of US troops in Syria from 2,000 to 1,400.
He indicated that US military officials will assess the possibility of further troop reductions after 60 days.
The US military withdrew from several points in northeastern Syria and concentrated its forces near gas and oil fields, with the launch of Türkiye’s Operation Peace Spring in October 2019.
The US military is currently stationed at 21 military bases and points in the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir al Zour, located east of the Euphrates, as well as Ayn al Arab, in Aleppo Governorate, northern Syria.
