Turkish Defense Minister: The Main gate for peace in Syria is with new constitution and Assad act rationally
Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler said that adopting a new constitution for Syria is the most important stage for establishing peace, stressing that the Turkish army won’t leave Syria without ensuring the security of its borders and people.
Güler added in a televised interview, “Türkiye sincerely wants peace, but we have what we consider sensitive points… It’s inconceivable that we leave Syria without ensuring the security of our borders and our people, and I think that the Syrian President need to act more rationally in this issue”.
The Turkish Defense Minister affirmed that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is making unremitting and sincere efforts to bring peace to Syria.
Erdoğan had confirmed that he was not considering withdrawing Turkish soldiers from Syria because the terrorist threat to his country is still present, while Ankara has repeatedly stressed that it won’t accept any preconditions leading to direct negotiations with the Syrian leadership, including the withdrawal of its forces from Syrian territory.
