Trump threatens Nigeria with military action if it doesn’t stop killing Christians!
US President Donald Trump threatened on Saturday to send heavily armed troops to Nigeria if it doesn’t stop what he called the killing of Christians by terrorists.
Trump explained in a post on TruthSocial social that if the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the United States will immediately stop all aid to Nigeria, and may send a heavily armed force into that country to eliminate the Islamic terrorists who are committing these terrible atrocities.
He added that he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare for possible military action a day after warning that Christianity faces an existential threat in Nigeria, stressing that it’s in the best interest of the Nigerian government to act quickly.
In another post on TruthSocial on Friday, Trump asserted that thousands of Christians are being killed in Nigeria, and radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter, adding that Nigeria is a country of special concern, a designation by the US State Department for countries engaged in serious violations of religious freedom.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmad Tinubu responded on Saturday on X, stating that “describing Nigeria as religiously intolerant doesn’t reflect our national reality,” adding, “religious freedom and tolerance have been, and will remain, a fundamental principle of our collective identity”.
Recently, talk about a Christian genocide and persecution in Nigeria has been circulating on social media, and this has been reacted to by far-right circles in the United States and Europe.
Nigeria is experiencing conflicts that have led to the indiscriminate killing of Christians and Muslims.
For more than 15 years, the country has suffered from continuous attacks by the Boko Haram group, which have killed more than 40,000 people and forced two million to flee.
Nigeria is roughly divided into a predominantly Muslim north and a predominantly Christian south, and some areas in the center experience frequent clashes between Muslim herders and Christian farmers, sometimes giving the violence a religious character.
US President Donald Trump is threatening to send a heavily armed force to Nigeria if it doesn’t act quickly to stop the killing of Christians, and says he has given instructions to the Department of Defense in this regard.
In response, Nigerian President Bola Ahmad Tinubu said that his country opposes and doesn’t encourage religious persecution and that its committed to working with the US government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation on protecting communities of different faiths.
