Trump: The Russian-Ukrainian talks are close to reaching a conclusion
US President Donald Trump said his country wants Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement as soon as possible, considering there is a good chance of ending the war.
This came during a press conference at the White House on Friday, where he was asked about US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statements on Friday that Washington would halt efforts to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine unless there were clear indications of the possibility of reaching an agreement.
Trump explained, “We want to end this quickly… There’s no specific number of days, but we want to see this war end quickly”.
He added that the Russia-Ukraine talks are currently close to reaching a conclusion.
“We’ve a real opportunity to conclude this agreement,” the US president added.
Trump stressed that both parties must take steps to conclude the agreement.
Asked what would need to happen for the United States to withdraw from the Russia-Ukraine negotiations, Trump said, “I don’t want to say that right now… We just want to see this war end”.
When asked, “Is Russia playing with you?” Trump replied, “Nobody is playing with me”.
