Trump: Putin confirmed the response will be strong to Ukraine’s attack on Russian airports
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin that lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes, during which they discussed a number of important security and political issues.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social, “I just finished a 1-1/4-hour call with Russian President Vladimir Putin”.
He added that the conversation covered “the attack on Russian aircraft by Ukraine, as well as other attacks by both sides”.
Trump emphasized that the call was good, but not an indication of immediate peace, pointing to Putin’s statements stressing the need to respond to the recent attack on Russian airports.
The two sides also discussed the Iranian issue during the conversation, with Trump indicating that time is running out to make a decision regarding the Iranian nuclear program, emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon.
Trump explained that Putin proposed participating in discussions with Iran with the aim of reaching a quick solution to the crisis.
On the other hand, Putin had previously asserted that the crimes targeting civilians ahead of the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine were aimed at obstructing the peace process, and criticized the Ukrainian authorities, describing them as lacking even the most basic political culture.
The Russian Investigative Committee declared that explosions targeted railway infrastructure in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, and deemed them terrorist attacks.
The collapse of two bridges in those regions resulted in deaths and injuries, according to investigations, which confirmed that both incidents were the result of deliberate bombings.
