Trump announces Venezuela will deliver up to 50 million barrels of oil revenues to the United States under his administration
US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Venezuela’s acting government would hand over up to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States and that the proceeds would be “under my management” as president.
“Acting authorities in Venezuela will deliver between 30 and 50 million barrels of high-quality, sanctioned oil to the United States,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“This oil will be sold at the market price, and I, as president of the United States of America, will manage those funds to ensure that they are used for the benefit of the people of Venezuela and the United States,” he said.
Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, on Tuesday declared a week-long mourning for the victims of the US attack in which Nicolás Maduro was arrested and extradited to the United States.
In a speech carried by state television, she said: “I’ve decided to declare seven days of mourning… The youth, women and men who gave their lives in defense of Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro”.
“We’re grateful to them… The images of their bodies have penetrated my soul, but I know that they are martyrs for the value of this republic”.
Cuba and Venezuela said 55 members of their militaries had been killed, while Venezuelan Prosecutor General Tarek William Saab said dozens of civilian and military personnel had been killed.
The number of civilian deaths remains unknown, but some sources have put it at between 70 and 80.
