The White House settles controversy over Biden’s considering withdrawing from the US presidential race
President Joe Biden isn’t considering withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race, the White House said Wednesday, amid calls to withdraw after his poor performance in last week’s debate against Donald Trump.
This came in press statements by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.
Asked if Biden was considering withdrawing from the presidential race, Jean-Pierre said, “Absolutely not, and you also heard it directly from Biden’s campaign,” she added.
Biden is facing increasing pressure to leave the presidential race, after his poor performance in his first personal confrontation with Trump on June 27, June, and the first debate in American history between a sitting president and a former president.
On Tuesday, Biden attributed his poor performance in the debate to his frequent travel.
Speaking at an event in Virginia, Biden said he had traveled a lot before his debate with Trump and that what he did was unwise.
“This isn’t an excuse, just an explanation… I didn’t listen to my crew and almost slept on stage”.
In turn, the White House spokeswoman said in statements to reporters on Tuesday that Biden caught a cold on the day of the debate.
“We understand the concerns, and the president didn’t have a good night during the debate”.
The US presidential election will be held on November 5 November, and the winner will assume the presidency of the country for four years starting in January 2025.
