The Wall Street Journal: US plan for a $6 billion arms deal with Israel
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing informed sources, that the administration of US President Donald Trump is seeking congressional approval to sell new weapons to Israel worth $6 billion.
The proposal includes a $3.8 billion deal for 30 AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, which would nearly double Israel’s current fleet of these aircraft, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The White House administration is also seeking approval for a $1.9 billion deal for 3,250 infantry fighting vehicles for the Israeli military, according to documents reviewed by the newspaper and a person familiar with the request.
The WSJ noted that the Trump administration is attempting to obtain congressional approval for arms sales to Israel, despite the Israeli missile strike on Hamas in Qatar and the expanded assault on Gaza City, which has been met with strong condemnation in Europe and the region.
