The United States is preparing a military base in Puerto Rico in preparation for a possible operation in Venezuela
The United States is upgrading and rebuilding facilities at a military base on the island of Puerto Rico, which could represent preparations for a possible operation on Venezuelan soil.
According to satellite images indicating that reconstruction work had begun at the former Roosevelt Roads military base since last September.
Photos taken during the last two months show that US crews began on September 17th to clean and repair roads near the runway of the base from which US forces withdrew in 2004.
A US official, said the base occupies a strategic location and offers ample space for assembling troops and storing equipment.
The United States is also building facilities at the civilian airports in Puerto Rico and St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, about 500 km from Venezuela.
Construction work in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands could enable the United States to carry out military operations inside Venezuela should Washington decide to attack it.
It’s worth noting that since the beginning of September, the United States has carried out at least 14 strikes against boats that Washington said were transporting drugs, resulting in the deaths of at least 61 people.
Media reports indicate that the United States has intensified military activities in the region, which may be in preparation for a military operation inside Venezuelan territory.
From his part, the Venezuelan president denounced the US actions in the region, noting that his country is now under the most intense military pressure in 100 years.
