The United Arab Emirates signs an agreement to supply one million tons of natural gas annually to Germany

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced on Monday that it had signed an agreement to supply one million tons annually of liquefied natural gas for a period of 15 years with SEVI Trading and Marketing (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of the German Energy Insurance Company for Europe (SEVI).

ADNOC said in a statement that the LNG will come from its Ruwais LNG project, and deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.

ADNOC has increased its focus on natural gas as a transitional fuel at a time when the world is trying to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and as competition for liquefied natural gas has intensified since the Russian military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

ADNOC’s production of liquefied natural gas is expected to be doubled to about 15 million tons annually from six million tons.

This deal is the second supply agreement from Ruwais after a similar 15-year agreement announced in December with a Singapore-based unit of the Chinese company ENN.

“Gas covers nearly a quarter of Germany’s primary energy use, and we look forward to supporting its efforts to enhance energy security and diversify its sources,” Fatima al Nuaimi, Executive Vice President of ADNOC’s Gas Processing, Refining and Petrochemicals Business Department, said in a statement.
