A statement was issued on Tuesday with appointments to the commanders of the Turkish Armed Forces, following a meeting of the Supreme Military Council, chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the Turkish Presidential Complex in the capital, Ankara.

Erdoğan has made changes to the military leadership, most notably appointing Land Forces Commander Selcuk Bayraktar Oğlu as the new Chief of the General Staff.

Erdoğan signed a decree appointing Bayraktar Oğlu as a successor to General Metin Gürak, who was sent to retirement after reaching the legal retirement age.

The commander of the First Army, General Metin Tokel, was also appointed commander of the land forces.

Also, the decree stated that both commanders of the naval forces, Admiral Argument Tatlıoğlu, and the commanders of the air forces, Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, were extended for one year in their posts.
